Welcome to The Royal
Visitors to the Royal can enjoy panoramic sea views while they savour their drinks or enjoy a tasty meal. Located next to the grassy Tankerton Slopes, the pub’s garden offers one of the best vantage points in the area for scenery and is a great place to idly watch ships and boats go by.
The Royal began life as a small hospital for recuperating soldiers during the First World War before becoming a hotel and then the popular pub and restaurant of today.
Daily specials and a wide range of home-made dishes, with ingredients coming from local suppliers where possible, are complemented by a choice of three or more cask ales at any time and a good selection of wines.
Regular Quiz Nights are held on the last Monday of every month. There are also two pool teams that play on a Wednesday night, along with a Sunday football team - The Royal is the centre of the community.

“Excellent family meal.” 5 of 5 stars - We enjoyed an excellent family meal here the other evening. As there were nearly 20 of us, they offered us a set menu priced at £14 for two courses. Some great choices of traditional pub food which was all beautifully cooked, hot and good sized portions. We have been to The Royal several times before and it is consistently good.Staff were all friendly and helpful too. We'll certainly be back. Many thanks
“luncheon in a sea front pub.” 5 of 5 stars - We have been to this pub on a number of occasions over the years. The usual pub menu with often specials for pensioners. Well cooked food with generous servings.
“Great Pub with Fabulous Views” 5 of 5 stars - We love The Royal and often visit for a bit of lunch when we're in Whitstable, with Tankerton only being a short 20 min walk from Whitstable Harbour... Lovely food and great staff..
